For less than the money Apple are refunding me for the macbook, I’ve got a Chromebook (Asus C302) coming tomorrow (which I’ll dual run Chrome OS and linux) and a powerful desktop kit which will be here in a couple of days.

The desktop kit (i8700k, 32gb, RX580, 4k hdr screen, ssd etc) will be for video editing and will be a hackintosh, so running mac os.

The laptop will be for light work (email, web browsing, writing, programming etc) around the house, outside etc.

It’ll mean a change in my working habits as I’ve been on a laptop exclusively for a few years now, so I’m used to working on the sofa or outside etc. But 4k video is far from ideal on any laptop no matter how powerful. And maybe I’ll get a better work life balance too (I work from home so now I’ll be forced to use my office for video etc and hopefully spend less time with my laptop permanently open outside of ‘working hours’).

I think I’ll be happier.
