Firstly on the subject of good looks. For me it’s not just that, although there’s no denying they have been at the forefront of great computer design (in terms of cases, packaging, branding etc) for years. I personally find macOS a very good operating system — fast, nice to use, secure and consistent across devices. The machines are also very light, although as I touched upon, recently they’ve gone too far with things like the thickness of the screens etc.
In terms of apps, I do a number of different things including web programming (which I can easily do in linux of course, I use PhpStorm and PyCharm as my main IDEs on the mac, which are both available for linux, and run my servers on linux distros). But I also do graphics, video and music work. I’ve yet to find anything comparable in terms of ease of use and functionality to replace Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Logic Pro X or Final Cut Pro X etc
