That’s a perfect plan if you are programming (no disrespect meant, I code too but — for me — it’s not CPU/GPU intensive, I use the MBP with PHPStorm/PyCharm and linux running on another machine on the network), or doing something that isn’t too demanding.
I’ve had a number of MacBooks in the past few years but my last one, I think, was a 2015 pro. I needed a new one anyway when I bought the late 2016 touch bar model. I could have bought another 2015 but the late 2016 model is much more powerful (I maxed the spec out) and nothing from the 2015 range comes close for video/audio work etc.
Personally I don’t care about depreciation (although I’m a Porsche man, not Ferrari ;) ) — I buy it to use not to re-sell, but I do care about quality and customer service.
