With the crouton installation I have both at once and switch between them using shift+ctrl+alt and the left arrow key (over the numbers, no the cursor keys). Everything carries on on the other o/s when you switch.

I boot into ChomeOS but to be honest, I spend nearly all my time in Ubuntu.
